The Shwe Pipeline is going to be used as a gas pipeline. However, with fueds between government officials and ethnic armed groups, the implement of the pipeline was delayed. It occurs in the Nam Kham township, and others in northern Burma. It started in June 2011. Since then, fights have been appearing in a territory specifically for the pipeline. It's extremely dangerous to have a running gas pipeline over-ground along a place of armed conflict. A stray bullet could possibly hit the pipe and create an explosion, making the surrounding areas extremely damaged.
The fighting should just stop. It probably has, it being half a year ago. Even so, 4 different rebelling groups against the Burmese military along a pipeline is a great risk to take. One hit and they're done for. The article also says that since they still put up with those groups, they do not care about the social and political implications of the project. If I were the president, I'd do something about it. I'd put them into prison if i had to. The pipeline could bring up their economy a little. People using the gas and paying the government could possibly boost the economy.
The pipeline will reel in money and help the government with whatever they need help on. Be it, debt or using the money to build buildings or roads. The reputation of whomever proposed the Shwe Pipeline will rocket through the roof.
